New software enables us to quickly upload full shows. This is three sets of Brandon Santini, Byron’s Bar, Pomeroy, IA, 2/26/32 PLUS a twenty minute encore. This is everything straight out of the recorder without any edits or track separation and will differ slightly from our future upload to Archive.
As the show progressed, Chad Elliott executed a painting. This is early in the painting, first song in first set.
We may not have an upload to Archive for this show-at least not until we have a further discussion with Amelia White about that (she has a trepidation about it).
In the meantime, here’s a little number she did that we just have to share. It’s atypical of the rest of the performance:
Matt Woods Band
Matt Woods, guitar, vocals
Erich Gaukel, bass
Dwight Dario, drums
Band was also joined by Jammin’ Jimmy Shieffer, harp and vocals, not included in this track.
Recording information:
Zoom H2n, side mics set at -4, gain set at 4, about “6 paces back” from twin Bose L1’s, to the right, about 8′ high.
Wav -> eMastered: EQ (widened the stereo a notch, raised the lows a notch, lowered the highs a notch and bumped the loudness a notch) -> Mp3 -> Audacity: fades, labels
Ryne Doughty and Brian Johannesen played Byron’s Bar in Pomeroy, IA on Sunday September 5, 2021. We’ll have the full show up soon at Internet Archive, but in the meantime, here’s a song by Brian, “Customer Of The Month” that spoke to me. According to Johannesen, it was inspired by his college roommate who ate the same plain peanut butter sandwich with Lay’s regular potato chips every day. There were certainly songs of arguably greater importance by both singers throughout the night, but sometimes I need the mundane stuff.
This is one of our earliest recordings from Byron’s, and unfortunately, yours truly had failed to anticipate what might happen if some guitar player overpowered our little recorder and brought the house to its feet.
The Amazing Guitar solo at the end is by Jake Koivisto, originally from Galva, Iowa.
Set Opener at Byron’s Bar, Pomeroy, IA 5/30/21. Zoom H2n on light stand maybe 8′ high, 5′ from PA right side. Some editing has been applied to remove a cough, a couple of beer can cracks, an odd crashing sound, but the PA crackled a bit. Much of that is gone too, but close listeners will hear the snip. Myer would like to review our output before we got all public with it, so this will serve as a “preview” of the night, and might be a temporary post. For the time being, we won’t add stuff from this show to our Facebook page. Photo by Byron Stuart.
